Development of the University of Illinois Web
Acknowledgments

This was a collaborative effort. I could not have done this
work without the help of many others.
Information
- Carolyn White provided latitude/longitude data.
- Mark Netter provided the initial Courses Catalog information.
- Erick Brunick and Kevin Jarboe provided information and insight pertaining
to obstacles for the mobility impaired.
- Bill McKinney provided the AutoCAD floorplans.
- Maeve Reilly of the Office of Publications was an invaluable
resource for several publications. In addition, she participated fully in the
restructuring of the organization of the university web pages' framework.
- Amy Bosshart provided the map that was the basis for the Engineering Campus
map.
- Gwen Jewett provided partial occupancy data for Talbot Laboratory.
- Joli Ginsberg provided occupancy data for rooms controlled by the Department
of Materials Science and Engineering.
- Chris Marx provided the photos and history of Altgeld Hall.
- Mike Safoutin provided the photos and history of the Transportation Building.
Code
- Mike Grady improved the Courses Catalog/Timetable scripts.
- Carlos Pero wrote the circling routine, using the gd libraries by
Thomas Boutell
(http://siva.cshl.org/gd/gd.html).
Tools
- Carlos Pero and Brad Whitmore gave a significant amount of help in
dealing with Macintosh eccentricities.
- xpaint is available at ftp://ftp.x.org/R5contrib/xpaint-2.1.1.tar.Z
- Documentation on xv is available at
http://is.rice.edu/~shel/rjohnson/xv.html.
Moral Support
- Brad Whitmore and Carlos Pero provided a contagious enthusiasm, without
which I certainly could not have sustained my motivation.
- My boss and boss' boss at CCSO, Ed Krol and George Badger, took a chance and
provided financial support for this project at a time when the Web was still a
highly unknown quantity.
- Maeve Reilly was a delight to work with.
- After I crippled my hands converting the Programs of Study to
hypertext, the Department of Rehabilitation Education and Services and CCSO
provided speech recognition hardware and software for me to be able to continue
my work.
- Mitch Kutzko, Georges Harik, Roy Schult, Candace Young-Schult, and
Pete DeLisle kept me from going crazy while my hands were disabled.
- My advisor, David Goldberg, let me take out enough rope to hang myself.
- After I had left campus and moved back to California, my housemates
Rich and Chris provided frightening enough threats to convince
me to actually finish writing this document.
There are many others whose name and/or contribution I have forgotten. I apologize
the oversights.
